TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS
- Essays & Articles
This section is for research, sustained analyses and arguments ranging from 800 words to book length. Pieces that end up here should be organized, formatted, and meditated on, though in widely varying degrees.
- Audio & Visual Studies
An area for photography, videography, music and visual arts. Some examples would be photo essays, illustrations, video documentaries or short films and original audio tracks.
- Poetry & (non-)Fiction
This section is for original poetry, literature, short stories and other forms of creative writing.
- Editorials and Interviews
Interviews with artists, writers, researchers or any other type of individual or group; or if something is on your mind, but you don’t feel like writing a thorough essay on the topic, your piece belongs here.
- Reviews
Views and thoughts on an issue or a piece you recently read, heard or saw.
- Abstracts
If you’ve written a paper that is being published or presented elsewhere, use this section to post an abstract describing your work on that project. Abstracts should be at least 300 words long.
- Notes and Asides
For short comments, rants, or noteworthy links. From 10-500 words. Anything much longer will probably be moved to another category or removed.
FORMATTING GUIDELINES
- Written Work
For textual pieces, we ask contributors to use a normal font (equivalent to around 12pt Arial) to ensure that posts are aesthetically easy to read. We do welcome variations to this standard if they serve as a stylistic device or enhance the content of the work.
- Essays
If contributing an academic-style essay, references can be in any format (MLA, APA, Harvard, etc), though we recommend in-text citations. However, if you are posting your contribution yourself, please refer to the publishing guide on proper formatting for the site.
- Images
These can be of any recognized file type (jpg, gif, png), though JPG files are recommended. To make it easier for people viewing your uploaded images, please make them web-friendly. For a quick guide on this process, click here.
- Videos
Videos posted to the site must first be uploaded to a video hosting website. Supported video hosts include: Youtube, Google Video, iFilm and Metacafe. We hope to offer local video hosting in the future.
- Audio
These files can be a number of different formats, though only MP3 files can be played directly on the site. Other file types that can be uploaded include wma, wav, and midi.
